Water-proof leather in ski gloves

What makes the leather in Free the Powder Gloves so soft, grippy and "water-proof"?

We use Fatliquors.

Fatliquors are used to create the soft, water-repellent outer texture of leather during the tanning process. (No glove-making material is truly water proof other than rubber/plastic). They are surface-active softening agent liquids that are used at the end of the wet processing stage of leather manufacturing. There are three categories: natural oil-based, semi-synthetic, and synthetic. They are used in rotating drums in which aluminum, chrome or vegetable tanned leathers are submerged. It takes time for the oils to penetrate and bind to the leather surface.
