More about Black Ops Valdez

Black Ops Valdez is located in Alaska’s Chugach Mountains, surrounding the town of Valdez and Thompson Pass. The area is huge, with over 2,500 square miles of mountains and glaciated terrain. With over 1000” of snow each year and a maritime snowpack, the area provides world class skiing and snowboarding conditions. No matter what you’re looking for, Black Ops Valdez has you covered. They offer mellow to extreme terrain to accommodate beginner to expert skiers, snowboarders and snowmobile riders. They offer a variety of options and packages for every riding style, ability, and budget. They are the best of Valdez.

The Operation

Black Ops Valdez operates an A-Star 350 B2 for all their heli skiing. The mountains surrounding Valdez are legendary for their perfect 3,000 to 5,000 foot shots. Besides the helicopter, Black Ops Valdez also operates snow cats in seven permitted zones that stretch from tidewater Valdez to mile 35 of the Richardson Highway in the Tsaina Valley, allowing them an enormous amount of options depending on the time of year. For “down days” or non-flyable days, they also offer snowmobile skiing tours, boat tours of Port Valdez, ice climbing, ski touring, and shooting…yes firearms.

The Black Ops Valdez Team

Black Ops Valdez is made up of a team of highly skilled and trained Alaska heli skiing guide veterans, many of whom have guided in Alaska for over a decade. You will not see a crowd of clients with Black Ops Valdez - they only allow 12 lucky clients at a time. Usually, that means three groups of four, each with their own guide. With that 4:1 client to guide ratio, you can be assured that your experience will be a personal one. You won’t get lost in a sea of clients, or have your guide forget your name. Their pilots are some of the best in the industry with thousands of hours of flying in rugged mountainous terrain.

Black Ops Valdez has their own Alaskan lodge, the Robe Lake Lodge!

Overlooking Robe Lake, between Valdez and Thompson Pass, the lodge is perfectly situated as a convenient base for your Alaska adventure. They offer gourmet dinners featuring Alaskan style cuisine. Enjoy the hot tub or sauna cabin after the best day of skiing or riding in your life.
