Harrachov lies in the altitude of 686 meters above sea level and belongs to the most significant recreation and sports centres in the western part of the Giant Mountains. The city is dominated by the famous center for ski jumps on Certova Hora ("Devil's Mountain“) directly above town. The first ski jump in Harrachov was built in 1920. With the construction of the new ski resort with standard cross-country skiing tracks, ski slopes and in particular ski jumps in 1980 the most famous era of Harrachov began. Sportsmen practise almost all year round on total 8 ski jumps, some of which are made of plastic. The attractive ski jumps are the peak of sporting events in Harrachov.

The Zugspitze, at 2,962 m (9,718 ft) above sea level, is the highest peak of the Wetterstein Mountains as well as the highest mountain in Germany. It lies south of the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the border between Germany and Austria runs over its western summit. South of the mountain is the Zugspitzplatt, a high karst plateau with numerous caves. On the flanks of the Zugspitze are three glaciers, including the two largest in Germany: the Northern Schneeferner with an area of 30.7 hectares and the Höllentalferner with an area of 24.7 hectares. Oppdal, Norway
Oppdal Ski Resort received the most new snow today with 16 inches. It is located south of Trondheim in Central Norway, and offers several ski lifts and plenty of pistes spread over four mountains. Each one of Oppdal's four mountains is big enough to make it a good resort in Norway. And with the four mountains connected with one ski pass, Oppdal Ski Resort offers good variations in skiing. There are many different ski slopes in all difficulties, from easy, green runs to challenging black ones.
Ex-World Cup skier Marc Girardelli claims that Oppdal is the best giant slalom hill in the world.
